I got my start developing small business and corporate web sites when it seemed like very few companies even had a real web presence. I built websites for artists, sometimes for free because they needed my help. I grew to love internet marketing and I find myself in a very similar field in 2008. Who is Shawn Powell? It is hard to define my role in a conventional sense. This type of career didn't exist 10 years ago. Each day I see new opportunities popping up right in front of my eyes. The internet offers so many exciting possibilities to search, to connect, to buy. If you look, you will find it. Now this is more true than ever. With the rise of social media, marketers need to shift and redefine their message. Hype no longer sells a product, especially when customers have the ability to post their experiences about your products to not one or two people, but to hundreds of their closest friends. The advantage comes when your product or service is genuine. You have hundreds of people building you up in a social spiral. Myspace and Facebook are now tools for business. Times have changed. Social Marketing is in. Internet marketing is out. Career Changes I used to love trading, and teaching people this wonderful art. But as time went on my interests changed. I stopped teaching and trading Forex at the high point of my career in late 2006. I am privileged to have met so many amazing people. In my numerous years on the road, I had the opportunity to visit 46 states and 3 Canadian provinces. I loved the large rooms of smiling faces eager for knowledge and at the same time, always eager for a laugh and a great show. I am speaking again, just on different topics. 2008 The Year of Work & Results I've moved forward with one of my dreams which has been with me since I was a child. That was to drive cars on the race track. This is something I feel like I was born to do. I do it with a deep pasion and it drives me. Rich Schefren says it is almost impossible to beat a man that is passionate or who has a deep interest in a field that you do not. I find those words to be powerful.
